Barclays CEO James ‘Jes’ Staley has stepped down from his role following an inquiry over his links to Jeffrey Epstein. Amid the reports, media attention turned on his net worth and career.
The bank said that Mr Staley would step down after receiving the findings from the probe run by The Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.
As reported by the BBC, Mr Staley said it was: “Very well known I had a professional relationship with Jeffrey Epstein”, however, Barclays said the investigation did not conclude that Mr Staley “saw, or was aware of, any of Mr Epstein’s alleged crimes.”

Who is Jes Staley?
Jes Staley is an American banker who was appointed as the group chief executive of Barclays in December 2015.
The 64-year-old businessman was born in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated with a degree in Economics from Bowdoin College.
His first job after graduation was at JP Morgan & Co (known as Morgan Guaranty Trust Co) and served as head of corporate finance in the bank’s Latin America division from 1980 to 1989.
Staley worked for more than 30 years at the bank where he was involved in the leadership of businesses such as equities, private banking and asset management.
He left JP Morgan in 2013 and served as managing partner at BlueMountain Capital prior to his appointment at Barclays.

What is Jes Staley’s net worth?
Mr Staley is estimated to have a net worth of around £4 million.
The businessman received a salary of £4 million for 2020, including an annual bonus of £843,000 despite that the bank’s pre-profits went down to £3.1bn for 2020 from £4.4bn in 2019.
Staley donated £392,000 of his salary to Barclays’ coronavirus fund last year.
In 2019, his salary was £5.9m, including an annual £1.7m bonus.
Meanwhile, Staley reportedly received up to £8.24 million, within a year of his appointment at Barclays.

Staley’ current salary at Barclays
According to reports, Staley will receive his full 12 months’ pay after he steps down as CEO of Barclays, which totals to an annual salary of £2.4m.
He will also get his pension allowance of £120,000 for the year, as well as other benefits.
