Michael tells Carlo he reminds him of Harry ‘The Hook’ in Your Honor

In the third episode of Your Honor (Sunday, January 29), Michael Desiato (Bryan Cranston) requests a visit with Fia (Lilli Kay), the ex-girlfriend of his late son and daughter of New Orleans mobster Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg).

Michael and Fia meet up in a park, but they are interrupted by her elder brother, Carlo Baxter (Jimi Stanton). Carlo, who was a driving force between last season’s drama, had much to discuss with Michael. In their interaction, Michael asks Carlo if he worries about karma catching up to him. Michael then compares Carlo to real-life mobster, Harry “The Hook.”

Carlo later discusses Harry “The Hook” with his father, Jimmy. Having read up on Harry’s case, Carlo raises his concerns that double jeopardy might not protect him in a potential retrial over Kofi Jones’s death.

Who was Harry ‘The Hook’ Aleman?

Harry “The Hook” Aleman was a notorious mobster based in Chicago, Illinois. He was one of the most feared enforcers of the Chicago Outfit, an Italian-American organized crime group that has been active since 1910, an affiliate of the Mafia.

Aleman was the nephew of Chicago Outfit’s future mob boss, Joseph Ferriola.

After graduating from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in 1958, Aleman had intentions of working as a commercial artist. He found work selling race track tout sheets and working at the produce markets on the Near West Side, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Aleman’s criminal career would start in the 1960s. Throughout this decade, he saw a number of criminal charges including aggravated assault, grand theft auto, aggravated kidnapping, and armed robbery. His work as an enforcer would begin in the 1970s, when Harry “The Hook” Aleman became associated with the Chicago Outfit.

What happened to Harry Aleman?

Harry “The Hook” Aleman is best known as the only person in the United States ever to be acquitted of murder, then retried and convicted for murder after find out the initial trial was corrupt.

Aleman was accused of murdering William Logan, a Teamsters official, and taken to trial in 1976. Logan had been fatally shot on September 27, 1972 in Chicago. During the trial, Harry Aleman was found not guilty and acquitted of the murder charge, Chicago Tribune reports.

However, Aleman would be convicted for the death of William Logan 25 years later, as it came to light that the original judge had been bribed to acquit under pressure from the Chicago Outfit. This is not a case of double jeopardy, as the original trial of Harry “The Hook” was revealed to be corrupt.
