The annual Labor Day celebrations are in full swing for American citizens and the festivities are set to continue today with the iconic Labor Day parade for 2022.
For interested parties looking to attend the event or watch it from the comfort of their home, we confirm the start time of the parade, what route it will take, and where to watch it live.
The Labor Day parade, also known as the West Indian Carnival, is a yearly celebration that takes place on American Labor Day (the first Monday in September), hosted in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York, and usually harbors between one and three million attendees.
What time does the Labor Day parade start?
The Brooklyn Labor Day parade will commence at 11 am ET (8 am PT, 4 pm BST) on Monday, September 5, 2022, and will finish at 6 pm ET.
With the main parade kicking off in the morning, the wider carnival also hosted a Dimanche Gras event on the Sunday, with a J’Ouvert parade taking place from 6 am ET on the Monday.
You’ll also want to tune into the NYC Labor Day Parade scheduled to start at 10 am on September 10, 2022, at 5th Avenue and 44th Street in Manhattan.
What route will the Labor Day parade take?
The Brooklyn Labor Day parade will start on Ralph Avenue and Eastern Parkway and finish at Grand Army Plaza and it is expected to last most of the afternoon.
Road closures are to be expected on St. John’s Place, Franklin Avenue, President Street, Washington Avenue, and Classon Avenue.
Residents nearby will be able to get the 2 or 3 Subway line to Grand Army Plaza, Franklin Avenue, or Utica Avenue as well as the 4 or 5 lines to Franklin Avenue.
Where to watch the Labor Day parade
In addition to local TV and radio stations covering the parade, interested parties from around the world can tune into the parade’s live stream.
The West Indian American Day Carnival Association will also be hosting a live stream via its Facebook page for viewers in all countries in addition to New York webcams that have been set up.
Furthermore, live updates are also expected to filter in from the local CBS New York channel, which you can watch online.
