What Is @Abcmouse On TikTok Profile? Alleged Scam Controversy

After the epidemic shut down schools and social events, kids spent a lot more time in front of screens because that was the only way they could learn, play, and hang out with their friends.

ABCmouse.com lets you sign up for a longer subscription for a lower monthly price or get a free one-month trial before the price goes up to $9.99 per month.

The Debate Over ABCmouse

Kelly Ross, a mother of three from Washington, D.C., saw a charge for the kids’ educational app ABCmouse in January 2018, even though her kids hadn’t used it in almost four years.

She called the company to ask why she got a bill for about $50 even though she thought she had canceled her subscription.

She thought back to how the business told her to read the small print. She is still mad about the situation years later because she didn’t get her money back until Ross called out the business on Twitter.

Ross had found a worrying pattern: design choices that lead people to make decisions they might not have made otherwise. They can be a visual clue, like a subscribe button that is much bigger than an opt-out button, or they can be hidden text on pages that people don’t read.

Last September, ABCmouse and the Federal Trade Commission reached a $10 million settlement over the way it automatically renewed subscriptions for people who signed up for a free trial. More than 200 thousand people got money back from the company.
