Little Miss Naughty and Mr. Happy were characters in a novel that was the inspiration for “Little Miss” memes on Instagram and TikTok. It provides the familiar characters with more accurate and hyper-personalized descriptions.

But in April 2022, @juulpuppy, an Instagram user, published a carousel of new memes that is thought to have started the current trend.
From there, corporations, celebrities, and everyday Instagram users all joined in, calling themselves out for anything from a moderately poisonous trait (Little Miss Sleeps With Makeup On) to an incident that’s definitely better forgotten while referencing their favourite characters (Mr. Banned From Uber).

Although the meme has recently become popular, its history goes back a long way. When the photographs for the Little Miss memes first surfaced online in 1971, Hargreaves’ son Adam asked him to describe what a tickling appeared like in that year.
Mr. Tickle, a yellow, squiggly man sporting a lovely blue top hat, launched the Mr. Men series. The spin-off series Little Miss debuted in 1981 and went on to sell over 100 million copies worldwide.
It also gave rise to numerous BBC TV shows. Adam Hargreaves continued Mr. Men with new paintings and stories when his father Roger passed away in 1988.

The structure of Little Miss/Mr. Men dates back at least to 2014, although @juulpuppy can be credited with beginning the trend as his initial batch of memes received over 52,000 likes on Instagram.
