Lanny Lee Larason “Tom Larson” died on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in Fredericksburg, Va., of complications from cancer, his family confirmed. He was 84 years old.

The Missouri-born moved to Boston in 1969 to work as Channel 38’s director of public relations. In addition to hosting his broad chat show, he quickly established himself as a mainstay among the local sports fan base by hosting pre- and postgame shows for the Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox.

At Channel 38, Larson covered a range of sports in Boston. He reported on “The Jess Cain Show” as the sports director for WHDH radio from 1981 to 1988. He was named the city’s “Best Sportscaster” by Boston Magazine in 1983.
