Exactly a year after it first surfaced, the rumor that Instagram is adding profile views is making the rounds again, and users are petrified!
Social media sites’ sole purpose is networking, but the majority of users are on them for a number of different reasons – with stalking topping the chart!
So, imagine what would happen if all the profiles you secretly kept a tab off started to show your name each time you made a visit? Well, this is why many are hoping the rumor about Instagram introducing the feature remains only a speculation.
‘Instagram is adding profile views’ rumor resurfaces in 2023
Instagram users are worried that the app may introduce the profile views feature, which basically shows an account holder all the people who have visited their profiles.
However, speculations surrounding the much-debated feature have long existed, but the photo-sharing app has never confirmed that it’s working on the option.
Last year, around the same time, Instagram users rushed to TikTok to check if the rumors were true when many videos claimed to show the “Profile Views” feature on their respective Instagram accounts. That, however, couldn’t have been further from the truth.
The said video consisted of morphed images or clips, leaving Instagram users convinced that the app had rolled out the feature.
Has Twitter introduced the feature?
No, Twitter hasn’t rolled out the profile views feature either, so do not come to believe everything you see on the microblogging site.
For privacy reasons, Twitter has never enabled the feature that allows you to track the visitors to your profile. This only explains why the rumors about it are spreading like wildfire on the platform.
If there’s one thing that is public, it is the impressions you receive for a certain tweet, but that doesn’t in any way reveal the identity of the users who have seen your tweet or visited your profile.
The profile visits, which are displayed at the top of your analytics dashboard, only show the number of people who have visited your account.
This is very similar to the new Bookmarks count feature that rolled out for iOS users a few days ago.
Users want to protect their privacy
A significant number of Instagram users have stated that the app should never roll out the profile views feature as it breaches their privacy.
One concerned user said: “Okay. If Instagram is adding profile views and making it public, imma uninstall it.”
“No. I don’t want profile views to show on Instagram. How can I stalk all my exes?”, wrote another.
A third user said: “If Instagram ever adds profile view notifications I will have nothing left in this world”
“Every time I look at who viewed my Instagram story, I think about that one TikTok that said it gets ordered in terms of who views your profile the most. I don’t know if that’s true but I can do without it,” read another comment.
