Having spent the best part of a century together, appearing in Disney parks across the world and in media with one another, it’s safe to say that Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are one of the most iconic couples of all time. Yet, having already faced rumors this year about Mickey dying, many people believe that Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are in the midst of a breakup – so let’s see if there’s any truth to such claims.
The rumors about Mickey and Minnie first took off on social media, as users began reacting en masse to reports of a parting of ways that would shake the earth’s core.
“THIS IS SO UNSERIOUS” wrote one Twitter user on October 13, in response to a headline that claimed Disney had broken the pair up “after 95 years”.
“Mickey and Minnie are getting a divorce?! Marriage is a wrap”, continued the tweeter, in a post that racked up just shy of 11 million views.
The outrage soon spread to TikTok, where one particularly hardcore Mickey and Minnie stan threatened to boycott Disney if the rumors, which they described as “the worst thing ever”, were true.
Debunked: no Disney breakup
So, are the rumors of a Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse break up true?
Thankfully, they are not! The whole ordeal appears to have been an overreaction based on an unconfirmed piece of information, for which we have Marvel to thank.
The movie giants have a series known as What If, in which they pose hypothetical scenarios from the extended Marvel Universe, in the form of mockup comic book covers.
And when they announced the Disney What If covers, a series of limited-edition variants, some eagle-eyed inspectors couldn’t help but notice that on the Earth’s Mightiest Super-Heroes cover, Mickey could be seen standing alongside Daisy Duck instead of Minnie Mouse…

How long have Mickey and Minnie been dating?
While an exact date is hard to come by, Mickey and Minnie are said to have been dating since 1929 – or so the tale goes at least.
Though technically they may be fictional, a 93-year relationship is good going for anyone in today’s current climate.
Oddly enough though, the pair do still appear to be holding out a little bit longer before they tie the knot, as to this day there has never been an official Mickey and Minnie Mouse wedding.
In defense of the two mice, they do say it’s best to give it a hundred years before you settle down to marriage…
