HITC explores rave reactions to the Evil Dead Rise title card.
Going to the cinema is always a welcome treat and, for horror fans, there are always franchises that will warrant the same excitement that audiences feel when checking out the latest blockbuster that everybody is talking about.
Evil Dead… it’s one of them. Fortunately, the series is back in theaters for the first time since 2013 thanks to Evil Dead Rise, the fifth installment.
Directed by Lee Cronin, this entry takes place in an apartment block instead of a cabin in the woods. However, the opening does take place in a more remote setting, all before delivering a title card that Evil Dead Rise fans are absolutely salivating over.
Evil Dead Rise title card is to die for
Rather than introducing us to our protagonists straight off the bat like the original Sam Raimi movie did, Evil Dead Rise opens with a young woman named Teresa vacationing at a modern, upscale cabin in the woods with her friend Jessica and her boyfriend, Caleb.
Caleb interrupts Teresa when she’s reading on the dock, compelling her to go inside and check on Jessica, who isn’t feeling well.
However, it’s revealed that Jessica is actually inhabited by a demonic entity and she attacks Teresa and Caleb. Back on the dock, Jessica goes into the water and eventually rises from the depths in unison with the Evil Dead Rise title in colossal font behind her.
Along with the Bruce Campbell cameo, the title card reveal has demanded quite the spotlight.
‘Best title card I’ve seen’
Never underestimate the power of a great title card; it announces the movie to the audience and is designed to make an impression.
In the case of Evil Dead Rise, it’s as inescapable and in-your-face as title cards can get, with fans championing it no end on Twitter.

I’ll be absolutely shocked if any title card drop for the rest of this year beats #EvilDeadRise for me. Oh my GOD I loved it so much 😍😍

‘I wasn’t gonna reboot a reboot’
The film’s director recently sat down for an insightful chat with IndieWire and revealed why audiences are whisked away from a more familiar setting and into a bold new direction after the Evil Dead Rise opening:
“I’m a fan of the movies, but I had no interest in making another Evil Dead movie at the cabin because they’d done a reboot. So I wasn’t gonna reboot a reboot. And if you’re gonna change it up, you may as well go to the other end of the spectrum.”
As you’d likely agree, he adds that “The top floor of an apartment in downtown LA is about as far as you can get from a cabin in the woods without leaving the planet.”
Evil Dead Rise is now in theaters.
