*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Wednesday*
In Netflix’s Wednesday series, mystery is afoot as a strange monster has been killing people in the town of Jericho, prompting Jenna Ortega’s titular character to investigate.
One of the first characters she meets in the town is Tyler Galpin, played by Hunter Doohan, and he quickly becomes a notable figure throughout the series as he takes quite an interest in Wednesday and her investigation.
But what happens to Tyler during the Wednesday series, what part does he have to play in the unfolding mystery and does he die by the end of episode 8?
Tyler Galpin in Wednesday
Tyler Galpin is introduced in Wednesday’s opening episode.
Unlike the outcast students at Nevermore, Tyler is an ordinary ‘normie’ human being and works as a barista at one of Jericho’s coffee shops.
He and Wednesday cross paths when she attempts to escape from Nevermore before her interest is piqued by the ongoing killing spree.
Throughout the series, he and Wednesday continue to grow closer and by episode 7, they eventually go on a date and even share a kiss – but the kiss reveals Tyler’s true identity, he is the monster who has been killing the people of Jericho.
Tyler is a Hyde, a terrifying creature with bulging eyes who is under the control of Laurel Gates, a descendant of Joseph Crackstone – the outcast-hating founder of Jericho – who has been masquerading as Ms Marilyn Thornhill, one of the teachers at Nevermore.
Wednesday’s final fight
In episode 8, Wednesday and her fellow classmates are forced to fight back against Laurel and the resurrected Joseph Crackstone who are hellbent on destroying Nevermore and its students.
On her way to the final confrontation, Wednesday is almost stopped by Tyler who is patrolling the forests surrounding the school and is moments away from killing her until Enid arrives to save the day.
Enid had been searching for Wednesday when she transformed into her werewolf form and she attacked Tyler’s Hyde just as he was about to strike.
A brutal fight follows with both Enid’s werewolf and Tyler’s Hyde dishing out some fearsome blows with everything from their claws to their teeth.
Tyler’s father, Sheriff Galpin, even arrives on the scene and shoots at his own son in an effort to stop the Hyde from hurting anyone else.
Eventually, Enid’s werewolf defeats the Hyde and Tyler’s father is left cradling his son’s blood-covered body.
Meanwhile, the distraction allowed Wednesday to escape back to Nevermore so that she, alongside some of Nevermore’s students, could face Laurel and Crackstone and prevent them from destroying the school.
Does Tyler die in Wednesday?
No, Tyler does not die in Wednesday.
Despite being horribly wounded in his fight with Enid’s werewolf, Tyler survives his injuries and is arrested for the brutal killing spree he carried out as the Hyde.
Tyler’s fate is revealed in the final scene of episode 8 which shows him being transported in a prison van where he is accompanied by several guards.
However, the final shot of the episode and indeed the season, sees him transform back into his terrifying and eye-bulging Hyde form, ready to carry out another attack.
