The next major fight scene for Thorfinn takes place in manga chapters 85 ‘Confrontation’ and 86 ‘No Going Home’, in a battle vs the hard-hitting retainer leader, Snake.

In Vinland Saga season 2, Studio MAPPA has made a habit of adapting roughly two chapters per episode:

Fans once again question Vinland Saga season 2 pacing

Whilst Vinland Saga season 2 is still the highest-rated anime of the Winter slate on MyAnimeList, the series is causing friction online within its global community with many viewers calling the series boring.

One Reddit user argued how MAPPA should have released Vinland Saga season 2 under a binge-model (dropping all episodes at once) because “The farmland arc is initially a very slow arc, so watching it week to week is really not going to be fun.”

“I realized this after watching season 1 and the first episode of season 2. Went ahead and binged the rest of the manga. And honestly it was the better choice.”

However, it’s important to note when comparing the action-packed season 1 to the seed-sowing season 2 that the first broadcast was actually only a prologue in the original manga.

Director Shuhei Yabuta posted on social media how “Some people might think that the story of this season isn’t suitable for anime series, but I don’t. Certainly, the storytelling is unique. But there is an important phase of the whole story in this season. And I believe it will make this anime special.”

“Showy events will decrease and the pace of the story will slow down. However, the emotions of the characters move more greatly and fiery. I promise that there is a unique experience like no other. I hope you all enjoy season 2!”
