On Saturday, June 25, a Twitter user who didn’t say who they were said that Ocean’s 8 star Anne Hathaway was linked to a 2013 case of alleged cannibalism. The tweet, which has since been deleted, went viral on the platform and was shared over 20,000 times in just two days.
Someone posted the tweet when the actress was on the cover of the June 2022 issue of Elle France. In the reply section of the post, there were many tweets that praised Hathaway. However, one tweet that caused a lot of trouble said that human remains had been found at Hathaway’s house in 2013.
Before this controversial tweet, Hathway had never been accused of cannibalism. Also, there have never been any reports that she had anything to do with the human remains that were supposedly found in her home. So, there is no question that the random tweet’s claim was completely false.
What did the tweet say Anne Hathaway had to do with eating other people?
In response to a tweet of a photo of Hathaway on the June 2022 cover of Elle France, a Twitter user named Girl with no problems (@hotpriestt) said, “Every tweet about Anne Hathaway going viral like police didn’t find human remains and evidence of cannibalism in her LA home that she sold in 2013.”
Girl with no problems (@hotpriestt) sent a photo of Hathaway’s house with a picture of the actress cut out of it in response to people who asked them to prove their claims. When the user looked into the claim more, he or she said:
“Believe women.”
The user posted again the next day: “G “od Evening, “Anne Hathaway is a cannibal,” was a 24-hour study by Harvard University on how people spread false information online. We have now finished our study. We appreciate your time.”
It’s important to note that Harvard University hasn’t said anything about this supposed study or the claims that Anne Hathaway is involved with cannibalism. After the tweet went viral over the weekend, it was surprising that the original user who sent it out said that it was false information.
Also, it’s hard to believe that Harvard University would do a study about spreading false information about a celebrity on purpose, which could be considered slander. It also raises questions about the law, because if Harvard really did a study like this on a famous person, the famous person might be able to sue Harvard for their actions.
In addition, Architectural Digest wrote about Anne Hathaway’s home in Los Angeles in a 2019 article. This is more evidence that the story that Hathaway’s house was sold in 2013 is not true.
People on the Internet respond to claims that Anne Hathaway is involved with cannibalism
After the now-deleted tweet went viral, many people made fun of the user for trying to spread such ridiculous lies about the actress. A lot of people came to the actress’s defence and defended the 39-year-old Brooklyn native against these claims.
