Alex Greenwood & Mason Greenwood: Are They Related?
Alex Greenwood is an English-born professional football player who currently plays for Manchester City in the FA Women’s Super League and for the England side.
On September 7, 1993, Greenwood was born. Alex plays left-back most of the time. She is a set-piece specialist but can also play in the midst of the defense. She has participated for Olympique Lyonnais in both the English and French Division 1 Féminine teams.
In addition to Everton, Greenwood has played for Manchester United, Liverpool, Notts County, and Everton. Everton was the club with whom she began her professional career. She remembers watching football games with her father when she was a young girl. The popularity of football in England caught Greenwood’s attention. Even though Alex has always been passionate about football, her devotion has increased proportionally as she has aged. Even though she had to deal with prejudice and an inconsistent income, her parents supported her choice of career.
When Alex was younger, she used to spend a lot of time playing football outside with the local men. Greenwood ceased doing that as she grew older. Greenwood asserts that she did not encounter any discrimination as a result of her participation in female football. This is in contrast to many other girls’ experiences. After that incident, Alex developed her skills and had a genuine love for the sport she was playing.
The athlete attended the neighborhood public school in the town where she was raised. Alex was a gifted athlete who took part in football competitions. Greenwood excelled at everything she tried, particularly sports. Greenwood attended Savio Salesian College to complete her degree after getting her prior college’s diploma.
In 2012, Greenwood competed in the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship as the captain of the England under-19 national team. She was selected to compete in the 2014 Cyprus Cup by her senior national team coach, Mark Sampson, and on March 5, 2014, she made her debut in a game against Italy. She scored her maiden goal for England in a match against Montenegro in September 2014, a 10-0 victory for England.
For England at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Greenwood, the team’s youngest player, alternated playing left-back with Rafferty, the team’s more seasoned player. She received a bronze medal after the team defeated Germany in the play-off for third place.
Greenwood was a part of the England team that won the 2019 SheBelieves Cup, which was played in the US. Greenwood received a position on England’s team later that year, just in time for the World Cup. On June 23, England defeated Cameroon in the round of 16 of the 2019 World Cup, with Greenwood scoring their third goal. With this victory, England advanced farther in the competition and ultimately took fourth place.
